What are neuromodulators?
Neuromodulators like Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are purified proteins that temporarily relax muscles that contribute to fine lines and wrinkles on the face. In simple terms, neuromodulators restore the volume and fullness of skin that diminishes as we age. They can soften lines associated with facial expressions such as forehead, frown and smile lines.
Neuromodulators can also be used to treat axillary hyperhidrosis, or excessive underarm sweating.
What is the difference between Botox, Dysport and Xeomin?
They are all neuromodulators in the botulinum toxin family that are approved for use by Health Canada. They are manufactured by different companies but work similarly to each other.
What is the neuromodulator injection procedure like?
This is a minimally invasive procedure; there are no incisions made whatsoever. A fine needle is used to inject a solution of the neuromodulator into the targeted muscles. The whole procedure takes about 15 minutes with no recovery or downtime making it extremely convenient.
What to expect:
You should start to notice results with in 2-3 days after treatment, however it can take up to 14 days after treatment to see a significant improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Depending upon the area treated, results typically last for 3-4 months, at which time re-treatment is appropriate.
Downtime? Side effects?
The treatment is generally well-tolerated with minimal side effects. Mild bruising and swelling may occur as well as a mild headache the day of your treatment.
After your treatment, we recommend you do not lie down flat for 4 hours, avoid excessive sweating for 4 hours and avoid rubbing the treated areas for the rest of the day.
The most common applications for Neuromodulators are:
- Frown lines
- Forehead creases
- Eye wrinkles, such as crow’s feet
- Upper lip lines
- Neck bands
- Also used for medical treatment of sweating and TMJ – expand
$10 per unit, each client is unique so the actual price of a procedure will be determined at the initial consult. Individual results will vary.
What are fillers?
Fillers (like Belotero, Juvederm and Restylane) are made of hyaluronic acid, a simple sugar compound already found in our bodies. They can help to address fine lines, wrinkles, loss of volume, lack of hydration and to add contour to areas of the face. Typically treated areas with fillers are the lips, chin, lines around the mouth, cheeks and jawline.
What is the filler injection procedure like?
Once the appropriate filler has been selected for your desired result, a fine needle is used to inject the filler under the skin. Most fillers are formulated with the local anaesthetic lidocaine for added comfort. We may also use a topical numbing cream in more sensitive areas prior to injection.
The treatment is gentle and virtually painless and will take about 30 minutes.
What to expect:
Results are immediate but improve over the course of 2-4 weeks. Depending on the amount and type of filler selected as well as the area treated, results can last for anywhere from 6-18 months depending.
Downtime? Side effects?
Bruising and swelling may occur for a few days after your filler treatment. Generally, these side effects are mild and can be adequately mitigated with occasional icing.
After your treatment, we recommend you avoid excessive rubbing or massage of the treated areas for the rest of the day.
Dermal fillers are commonly used for:
- Cheek enhancement
- Chin definition
- Lip enhancement
- Smoothing the jaw line
- Reducing smile lines
- Crows feet and tired Eyes
Each client is unique, the actual price of your procedure will be determined at the initial consultation.
